To finish on the thought of salt, salt is needed for your body, however the amount of salt that comes in most processed food is way higher than needed in an entire day. To end that thought if you really want to know about more dangers of salt, read the following. http://www.cspinet.org/salt/
Now for the second danger that is in most boxed/processed/frozen foods is artificial coloring! It was bad enough having a daughter that was allergic to red dye. When she would eat Red 40 she would break out in painful hives. It took us 3 years to finally put 2 and 2 together and figure out it was red dyes that was causing the hives.
Besides making a few kids break out, what is so bad about having a few dyes in our foods? There is a reason why many European companies have banned these dyes. In many parts of Europe there must be a warning label if these foods have dyes in them. The following are included on the warning labels: dyes may cause hyperactivity, hives (like my daughter), depression, cancer, and asthma.
The first thing you may want to ask yourself is what is it made of? Many, including Red 40, Yellow 5, and Yellow 6 are made from petroleum, which as you know comes from coal tar. The fact that this coal tar (which is a toxic subject) is in your food to make it look pretty is scary. Europe has banned this for a reason, when will the US follow suit?
Dyes are everywhere. They are in our food, they are in our toothpaste, in our vitamins, I've even seen it in my child's medicine which I ended up not letting her take (we did find an alternative).
Dyes are linked to increased hyperactivity and behavioral issues in children and adults. There is a really good article I encourage you to read about the Southampton Six.
More to come soon!
